On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, in order to further study and implement the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on postgraduate education and the spirit of the National Conference on Postgraduate Education, the Joint Conference of Deans of Graduate Schools of China held a series of special forums around the Ministry of Education's "Ten Special Actions to Implement the Spirit of the National Conference on Postgraduate Education and Accelerate the Cultivation of High-level Talents. The first series of special forums were held on the theme of "Implementing the spirit of National Conference on Graduate Education and accelerating the cultivation of high-level talents" by the Ministry of Education, with a view to playing the leading role of the Joint Conference of Deans and offering suggestions for the reform and development of China's degree and postgraduate education in the new era.The first thematic forum focused on "Cultivation of Doctoral Professional Degree", with the theme of "Serving National Major Strategic Needs and Cultivating High-level Applied Leaders", was held in Xi'an from June 18 to 19, 2021.
The opening ceremony of the forum was hosted by Zhang Yanning, Assistant President and Dean of Graduate School of Northwestern Polytechnical University. Zhang Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of NWIT, Yuan Ning, Secretary General of the Degree Committee of Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, and Zheng Gang, President of the 2021 Rotating Chair of the Joint Council of Deans of Graduate Schools of China and Executive Vice President of the Graduate School of Tianjin University, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.
After the opening ceremony, the special forum entered into the conference report session, which was hosted by Yang Lihua, Vice President of Graduate School of Peking University and Wang Junzheng, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Beijing University of Technology. Yang Dayan, Director of Comprehensive Department of Graduate School, Ministry of Education, and Li Hengjin, Director of Quality Monitoring and Professional Degree Department, Center for Academic Degrees and Postgraduate Development, Ministry of Education, delivered the keynote speeches on "Implementing the Spirit of National Conference on Postgraduate Education" and "Serving Demand and Promoting High-Quality Development of Professional Degree Postgraduate Education in the New Era" respectively. The keynote report was delivered on the theme of "Implementing the Spirit of National Conference on Postgraduate Education" and "Serving Demand and Promoting High-Quality Development of Professional Degree Graduate Education in the New Era". Mr. Gao Dong, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Harbin Institute of Technology, Mr. Dong Weichun, Vice President and Dean of Graduate School of Nanjing Agricultural University, and Mr. Zhang Weihong, Vice President of Northwestern Polytechnical University, delivered the keynote speeches on "Introduction to the Cultivation of Engineering Doctoral Students in Harbin Institute of Technology", "Institutional Innovation and Professional Degree Education of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine" and "New Era of Professional Degree Education of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine" respectively. The conference reports were on "Institutional Innovation and Professional Degree Education of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine" and "Thinking and Practice of Cultivating Engineering Doctoral Students in the New Era".
In the afternoon of 19th, the symposium entered into "parallel forums", and three parallel forums were held simultaneously.
The theme of "Parallel Forum I" was "Cultivation of Engineering Doctoral Degree", which was presided over by Zhao Hongduo, Dean of Graduate School of Tongji University, Lv Weifeng, Assistant to President of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Executive Vice President of Graduate School, Zheng Gang, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Tianjin University, and Zheng Gang, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Beijing University of Science and Technology. Mr. Zheng Gang, Assistant President of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Tianjin University, Mr. Wang Junzheng, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Beijing University of Technology, Mr. Guilin, Vice President of Graduate School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Mr. He Feng, Director of Professional Degree Office of Graduate School of Peking University (on behalf of Vice President Chen Peng), Mr. Xiao Xi, Vice President of Graduate School of Tsinghua University, Mr. Zhao Hongduo, President of Graduate School of Tongji University and Mr. Bu Jiajun, Vice President of Graduate School of Zhejiang University introduced the practice and exploration of cultivating professional degree graduate students in engineering with the actual situation of their respective schools. The practice, exploration and reflection of cultivation of professional degree postgraduates in their respective schools.
"Parallel Forum I" scene
"Parallel Forum II was themed on "Development of Professional Degree Graduate Education in Western China" and was chaired by Zhang Yanning, Assistant President and Dean of Graduate School of Northwestern Polytechnical University. Mr. Long Jianzang, Vice President of Graduate School of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Mr. Zhou Xianli, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Southwest Jiaotong University, Mr. Tian Cong, Vice President of Graduate School of Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology, Mr. Zhang Yanning, Assistant to President and Dean of Graduate School of Northwestern Polytechnical University, Mr. Li Tiantai, President and Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of Xi'an University of Petroleum, Mr. Xie Yingzhong, Standing Committee Member of Party Committee and Vice President of Ningxia University, Mr. Wu Jianjun of Lanzhou University and Mr. Gao Dedong of Qinghai University made presentations respectively. They exchanged and discussed on how to take advantage of the location of western region, grasp the development opportunities in the new era, strengthen the exchange and cooperation of western universities, and improve the quality of doctoral professional degree cultivation.
"Parallel Forum II" scene
"Parallel Forum III" was held on the theme of "Education/Clinical Medicine/Dental Medicine/TCM/Veterinary Medicine Doctoral Degree Cultivation", which was chaired by Wan Xuehong, Executive Vice Dean of Graduate School of Sichuan University, Guo Xin, Executive Vice Dean of Graduate School of China Agricultural University, and Sun Jun, Dean of Graduate School of Jilin University. Guo Xin, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of China Agricultural University, Sun Junqi, Dean of Graduate School of Jilin University, Wan Xuehong, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Sichuan University, Chen Yan, Executive Vice President of Graduate School of Fudan University, Yang Fuyi, Vice President of Graduate School of East China Normal University, Chen Diyi, Director of Graduate Work Department of the Party Committee and Vice President of Graduate School of Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University, Wang Tingting of Nanjing University, Yu Zizhong, Vice President of Graduate School of Xiamen University made presentations on the training of doctoral students in medicine, education and other professional degrees. They exchanged and discussed the current situation, new situation, new problems and suggestions for the cultivation of professional degree doctoral students in medicine and education.
"Parallel Forum III" scene
The forum also set up an "interactive exchange" session, which was hosted by Zheng Gang, the rotating chairman of the Joint Council of Deans of Graduate Schools of China. Director Li Hengjin participated in the session and gave guidance, while Xiao Xi of Tsinghua University, Wang Junzheng of Beijing University of Technology, Chen Yan of Fudan University, Wan Xuehong of Sichuan University, Dong Weichun of Nanjing Agricultural University and Zhang Yanning of Northwestern Polytechnical University were the guests of the session and had in-depth communication and discussion with the deans on issues of common concern such as selection, cultivation, evaluation and relationship with employers of professional doctoral degree students.
Conference "Interactive Exchange" scene
The forum was sponsored by the Joint Association of Deans of Graduate Schools of China, co-organized by the National Steering Committee of Engineering Professional Degree Graduate Education and hosted by Northwestern Polytechnic University. More than 100 leaders of graduate schools and postgraduate education experts from all member institutions of the Joint Association of Deans attended the conference, which focused on the theme and shared the practice, exploration and reflection on the cultivation of doctoral professional degree postgraduates in the new era. The forum achieved the expected purpose and was a complete success.
