The Delegation of Deans for Exchange in Hong Kong Successfully Returned from the Visit in Hong Kong

  The delegation of 11 deans from the Association of Chinese Graduate Schools(ACGS)to Hong Kong, led by Professor Ye Huiyuan (Vice President of Shanghai Jiaotong University and Dean of Graduate School) and Professor Chen Haoming (Executive Vice President of Tsinghua University Graduate School), arrived in Hong Kong on March 19, 2003, and started the four-day visit of the delegation.


  On March 20, the delegation visited the Graduate Office of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Graduate Office of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Research School of the University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation; on March 21, the delegation visited the City University of Hong Kong, and held a symposium attended by comrades in charge of all graduate training units (research schools of seven universities) in Hong Kong. In the evening, the delegation also attended a public lecture on "How to apply for postgraduate studies in mainland China" and answered students' questions on the spot; in the morning of 22nd, the delegation visited the Research School of Lingnan University; in the afternoon of 22nd, the delegation returned to Shenzhen; in the morning of 23rd, the delegation visited Shenzhen University campus. In the afternoon, the delegation finished the study tour and visit and returned to their respective schools.


  The study tour and visit were tight in time and heavy in task, and the schedule was very full. During the exchange, the counterparts of postgraduate education in the two places introduced the history, current situation, system and experience about the management of postgraduate education in mainland and Hong Kong respectively, discussed the current hot issues of international concern in the field of postgraduate education, and shared a common understanding of many aspects of the postgraduate training process. Through this visit, we have enhanced our understanding and strengthened our friendship. It was unanimously agreed that the exchange and cooperation of graduate education between the two places should be further strengthened in the future. The Joint Council of Deans of Graduate Schools of China also invited their counterparts from Hong Kong to visit the motherland at their convenience. Both sides expressed that they should make joint efforts to improve the quality of China's graduate education and enhance the international status of China's graduate education!
